I appreciate any game that makes it easier for me to do what I'm gonna do anyway.

The navigation thing seems cheesy, but then again I sort of pride myself on my skill at that sort of thing, and I suppose it makes it accessible to people who aren't so hot at that but still want to enjoy the game.

Based on your description I think I'd rate Dead Rising "still better designed than Star Control 2."
