Warcraft stuff
It's after Christmas, so the queues are back. In prime time, it can take from10-20 minutes to get onto a server. All the new people who got WoW for Christmas logging on at once, and all that. It's really just as well that the expansion isn't out yet -- that's going to cause another big surge in the number of people trying to play at once...

Lots of patches this week, in the final run up to the expansion pack. Luckily, most are small.
Got Implaq up to level 16, and started a new Warlock, Atalantes.
The Auction House traffic has been cooling off as the expansion approaches. Or maybe Rumpelstilt has just exhausted the current market for medium-high level spell reagents. I'm confident that they'll still sell in the long term, though.
It is both enticing and frustrating that the Special Battleground for this weekend is one that we can't actually get to yet, because it's part of the expansion.

The expansion is now out, but I haven't got it yet. May be a few more days before I have time. Assuming the stores restock by then -- all the initial shipments have sold out.
I read online that WoW has passed the eight million mark.
Also online, I read bunches of references to a Dark Portal event that's been going on for several days now. I've probably missed my chance to see it :(

I have the expansion pack, yay! I even got it fully installed last night.
Man, I wish Blizzard's lawyers would ease up a little. I had to click 'accept' on various pages of legalese *seven times* before I was actually able to play.
By the time I was ready to play, I was tired enough that I really should have gone to bed. But, but, but -- NEW GAME! Ok, so bed was right out. I compromised by doing some relatively safe and low-stress gameplay, starting up a new Blood Elf character on Blackwater Raiders. (Yes, that makes three characters already. I'm an alt-oholic.) While Blood Elf Paladins will no doubt be cliche in the populace at large, Guildissimo didn't seem to have many yet, and I have some interest in seeing hosw they're handled on the Horde side, so that's what decided to do. Making a pretty Pallie for the 'bad guys', I dedided she should be named Marfisa. I got her to level 5, and made my saving throw to stop playing once she reached an inn.
I'd heard for a long time that one of the major deisgn goals of the Blood Elves was "be pretty". They've certainly succeeded, even more with the environment than the character design. It's all very lush and beautiful, with lots of sparkly, floaty magic bits. Even the early monsters you fight are on the pretty side. Self-propelled brooms, a la The Sorcererls Apprentice, sweep the buildings.
One thing that was immediately noticable about being a Blood Elf Pallie is that I have a limited ability to 'pull' right out of the box. The Blood Elf racial ability of Mana Tap can be used at range, unlike all the basic Paladin abilities. Of course, this only works against enemies that *have* mana. Of course, against pure magic users, you want to close to melee range fast anyways. But there are a lot of 'mostly melee but with some magic' enemies out there as well, especially at the early levels.
