Actually, as I've been re-reading the comics, the movie looks less and less faithful. Though they still got most of the *heart* right, which is most important. But the comic (as learnedax guessed) features no "ordinary-joe-new-to-the-team-viewpoint-character", nor do the comics bother with making the BPRD a covert operation. and while the "Sama-el" monsters in the movie were effective, they just didn't have that delightfully creepy *wrongness* that the frogs in the comic book did.
