Hellboy

Went to see Hellboy with a bunch o' folks last night. I liked it a lot. Probably more than any of them did, as I was the only person to loudly applaud at the end. Though the plot was rather loosely adapted, the characterization and art direction were spot-on. Going to hav to re-read the comics now.

Best preview was definitely Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. As soon as I saw the giant robots rampaging through the city, I immediately thought, "Hey! We can do that in the Freedom Force engine!" Must see about convincing boss to investigate the licensing possbilities.

Special effects for that movie are in fact special. I don't remember the details, but I'd do some research before jumping on that train.

Hellboy seems to be that great rarity: a comic book movie that fans of the comic consistently like. Not an easy trick to pull off. (Having the comic's creator as exec probably helps a lot, but it's impressive that it's both true to the original and a good movie to boot.)

As for Sky Captain: it's the movie we've been looking forward to for months. I'm not sure whether it's going to be *good* per se, but it looks likely to be fun...
