Hypothesis: He was there with SCA friends, who gave him at least their interpretation of the events, and possibly mentioned the later fallout to him, well, later. Certainly some of what happened at TCT was *extremely* public and visible, and anyone who was there would naturally have inquired into "what the heck is going on here?"
