NBCAM

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I'm pretty aware.

My mother has had several bouts with breast cancer. She is "not expected to survive" her current one, though she could have years left.

Last Wednesday, in a hotel in New Jersey, [livejournal.com profile] kestrell found a lump in her right breast. It wasn't *just* the bad conditions in the hotel room keeping me awake.

Yesterday, we spent about 8 hours shuttling around between various doctors and hospitals. Did you know that Boston Medical Center does walk-in mammograms? Kes had her very first. And second. And third. Then an ultrasound examination, for good measure ("your breast tissue is very dense").

Final verdict: "a simple cyst". Also known as "perfectly normal" and "nothing to worry about".

We slept much better last night.
