Cupid Technology

I had a dream snippet the other night featuring a Cupid holding a flintlock pistol. I suppose it makes sense that the technology should progress beyong bow and arrow. He could even use gold/lead bullets in the same way he traditionally used arrows of different materials. By the time of the Old West, he could load a six-shooter with, say, five lead and a gold, and spin the cylinder -- Cupid Roulette! These days, d'you think he uses a taser?

I think he's up to the I LOVE YOU virus.

So, um, what is the different effect of the gold vs. silver? I don't recall that bit of the myth.

I think a solid projectile is really important in the archetype, though.

As I recall, golden arrows caused love, while lead arrows caused hate (or perhaps dissention).

This is a magical effect from a supernatural being. I'm not sure that I buy the notion that a solid projectile is an important component of that. On the other hand, there were physical components in many of the interactions of the gods with mortals.

Of course we could argue it either way. But I think that a taser is too much like some mystical force field as compared to actually being *struck* by something.

We could try an analyze it the other way -- how does falling instantly in love with someone feel? Considering Cupid, the greeks must have thought it was sudden/unexpected, painful, and ached for a long time. Possibly Cupid could be armed with a golden tax audit.

Hmm. I think different parts of the country would have different ideas here. Here in the North, Cupid would have a sheet of ice for us to slip on. In California, he'd be allied with Poseidon. In Georgia, he'd bring fire ants.

Of course, if it's unexpected we're looking for, we could go further afield. He could ride in on a pogo stick (those wings are pretty silly-looking) and play "got your nose!" on you...with pliers.
