Had a visit with [livejournal.com profile] russkay in the early afternoon. ([livejournal.com profile] kestrell had to stay home to work on her thesis.) Dad's doing well physically; the dialysis is really helping. On the other hand, the dialysis is taking up an annoying amount of time. Hopefully I (or someone) will be able to get him a new kidney soon. Curiously, as we were in the car on the way to lunch, the radio had a story about the ethics of paying people for kidney transplants, something that is apparently under legal debate right now.

Dad is trying to unburden himself of stuff, and offered me pretty much free reign of his books. Unfortunately for him, I am *also* (albeit to a lesser degree) trying to cut back on material possessions, so I only ended up taking six. As it happens, two of them were books that I'd oaned to mom earlier, anyways...

In the car later, listening to the radio, I heard a Simon & Garfunkel song that I quite like, "Homeward Bound". But when they got to the chorus, one part of it made me snort. "Home, where my love lies waiting silently for me..." [livejournal.com profile] kestrell has many fine qualities, but "waiting silently for me" is about as far from her habits as I can imagine! Not that I'd have it any other way, of course.

Stopped in at The Outer Limits to get comics. It must have been a remarkably brief time since the last time I was there. The last few times, I got two of the monthly catalogs, but this time there wasn't even *one*. Still a goodly pile of comics, though :-)

Headed over to [livejournal.com profile] cvirtue's and [livejournal.com profile] metageek's house, since I had the car, and they were free. The twins, as usual lately, were quite happy to see me. Elizabeth wanted to play hide-and-seek, while Arthur wanted to play Tag. We compromised by letting Elizabeth go hide while I chased (or was chased by) Arthur for a while. I discovered something funny about Arthur's mental development, strategy-wise -- While he was it, I managed to evade him for a very long time by simply running in a large circle. He chased me in the circle, never thinking to cut across my path. Unfortunately, my energy level is nowhere *near* his, so he eventually won that chase :) There was more alternate hiding and chasing until it was time to make dinner.

While [livejournal.com profile] cvirtue was cooking, I spent a little while blowing bubbles for the kids to attack (in their personae as "evil bubble pirates"), and then read them a few books. Dinner was yummy, if occasionally punctuated by kid-drama. Arthur has the most astounding ability to drag out chewing a single bite of food that I've ever seen. Teeny little plate of food, and he didn't manage to finish it before bedtime.

After the kids were put to bed, [livejournal.com profile] cvirtue, [livejournal.com profile] metageek and I stayed up talking for another hour or so about sundry topics. But sleepiness eventually intruded, so I headed home. And there, my love was, albeit neither waiting nor silent :-)
