Wow, I've been lax in posting this year. But here's a few tidbits:

My Employers, as some of you will have heard, recently rebranded themselves as Irrational Games again. The relaunched website includes a monthly podcast. Since our current project is still Sooper Top Sekrit, the first batch of episodes talk about our past. In Episode 2, I can be heard talking about Thief, Freedom Force, and BioShock. There's also some writing from me in a related feature about Cut Features.

On another front, Steven Brust's Vlad Taltos novel, Iorich is out. I had the pleasure of 'beta-reading' an earlier draft. One of the changes from the draft I saw to the print edition was the addition of one line to the Acknowledgments: "Finally, my thanks to Alexx Kay for continuity checking."

Not only are these some of the best costumes for a Big Daddy / Little Sister pair, they did a photo shoot inside an aquarium for bonus atmosphere!

Here is a Youtube video of an Australian fellow's non-gamer girlfriend playing BioShock, with audio of her reactions. Lots of swearing, but also lots of funny talking to the game characters, and apologizing for shooting them.

The nominations for the Spike TV Video Game Awards are out, and BioShock is nominated in every category that we are eligible for*. I am especially pleased at the nomination under Studio of the Year for "Irrational Games". Winning that would be a sweet farewell to the now-defunct brand name.

* I am reminded of the year that Freedom Force vs the 3rd Reich came out. One of the PC gaming magazines had an editor who really loved it, and was upset that it didn't win in any of the categories. So he insisted that it be listed as an Honorable Mention in *every* category. Including completely inappropriate ones like Sports Game and Racing Game :-)

Folks at work have turned up some other good ones. Both have some funny visuals, but are mostly carried by audio, so kestrell should be able to enjoy them as well :-)
