A Dream(?) of Flying
Apr. 5th, 2007 01:33 pmI generally love flying dreams. On the uncommon occasions when I get into a lucid dreaming state, flying is one of the pleasures I most often indulge in.
On the other hand, I *hate* falling dreams. I always wake up from them in a panicked adrenaline haze.
The other night, I had a dream which, while it was happening, I was for some reason convinced that I was definitely *not* dreaming. For kicks, I tried one of the takeoff maneuvers that works in lucid dreams. To my shock and surprise, I took off, and rapidly gained altitude. Since I was convinced that I was awake, I was sure that this 'flying' thing would stop working at any moment, and I would plummet from about thirty feet up, possibly fatally. This scared me so much that I woke up in a panic, just as from a standard falling nightmare, even though I never actually fell.
Stupid brain.
