I had a Birthday Party, and it was considerably better than all right. Thanks to everyone who came and helped make it a good day, especially with the food. Some memories:
juldea had customized her t-shirt to wish me a happy b-day! Plus, an excuse to look at her cleavage, always a fine thing :-) Later, she awed us all with her 1337 Guitar Hero skillz0rs. I am intimidated.
gyzki brought over a copy of "The Ballad of Cat Ballou", which we started watching, but then the house suddenly filled with people, so we never finished. Perhaps we should have a Melville Keep Movie Night sometime soon. When is good for people?
Many literary discussion, ranging from opera, to comic-book continuity, to Elizabethan theater, to modern SF and Fantasy.
Somone discovered, on our front doorstep, a small figurine of a girl in a yellow dress, a fugitive from my set of Betrayal at House on the Hill. Near as I can figure, she must have been there since last year's 21st Century Party!
My friend Kirk from work showed up, with his girlfriend Kristin, and they had an unexpectedly cool present for me. It had come up in conversation at work a few weeks earlier, that Kristin was part of an Elizabethan theater troupe at BU. So they gave me a DVD of a recent production of Edward II that she had co-directed and he had been on the crew of. I was quite pleased, and immediately repaid the gift by giving them a copy of The Knight of the Burning Pestle DVD :-)
siderea did some MB typing of
kestrell. Kes was somewhat surprised to be the same type as Siderea (INTJ), but *I* wasn't surprised. They certainly have a very similar party-style, in which they seem to focus all attention in the room upon themselves. (This trait might be a bad thing in a boring person, but luckily neither of them is remotely close to that!)
After Juldea had had enough Guitar Hero,
43duckies ended up getting introduced to (and somewhat enchanted by) Katamari Damacy. I did a little backseat driving, but was mostly distacted by the other fabulous babes surrounding me on the sofa. Babes and videogames -- life doesn't get much better than that :-)
The evening was pretty much finished out by a showing of "A Bloody Deed", because there are still people in the universe who haven't seen it, and two of them were in the room. It is one of my personal missions in life to show that to as many people as possible :-) That took us past 11:30, and I amnaged to have the house cleaned and get to bed by midnight. A most satisfactory day.
