( Dental stuff )On Saturday, I had a pleasant visit with
cvirtue,
metageek, and the twins. Interestingly, the twins no longer try to *completely* monopolize my attention, so I actually had some conversation with the adults. And E has had some manners-training actually take hold; when they were being read to, and she had a question, she would raise her hand instead of just interrupting. A seriously fell in love with the small "hang glider" toy I brought over -- budding aeronautics engineer?
The rest of the weekend was spent alternately playing WoW and reading to
kestrell. We just finished _Watchmen_, by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons.
_Watchmen_ remains a very interesting book, although the passage of time has changed how I view it in some ways. The plot has become *more* relevant in recent years. After all, we live now in a world where New York *was* subject to a devastating surprise attack, and that attack did (briefly) unify world opinion. Sadly, that unity was fleeting and futile, just as Moore suggests will be the case after the events of _Watchmen_. WM depicts a world where the US, drunk with power and lacking any apparent rival in that power, is boldly imperialistic (and, incidentally, has invaded Afghanistan). We live in such a world now. In WM, the power of the US was far more unstable and illusory than the government realized, and that also describes our present predicament.
Now starting shortest work in ages for me. Monday was a holiday, Thursday is a vacation day so that Kes and I can go out to the theater, and Friday is my oral surgery. So Teusday and Wednesday are my only work days...
