Had a great time visiting [livejournal.com profile] cvirtue, [livejournal.com profile] metageek and the twins today (with special guest appearances by Cythia's sister Karen, and [livejournal.com profile] pamelina).

[livejournal.com profile] kestrell and I are starting to pare down belongings seriously now, what with contemplating a possible move in about a year. So, as I had temporary use of a car, I brought loads of stuff to give to the twins. I brought roughly 80% of my lego collection -- would have brought all of it, but some has gone missing. Hopefully, as I clean and pack, the rest will re-emerge. I love lego dearly, but I've come to accept the fact that I just don't love it enough to actually *use* it at all. So it seemed best to pass it on to those who would.

On her part, Kes donated three silly hats, a pirate hat, a space helmet, and a hat with a large Black Widow spider atop it. These were a *huge* hit. The space helmet has a small 'microphone' attached to it, and once that was explained to her, Elizabeth walked around for quite a long while saying into it: "Talk to me, talk to me, talk to me, talk to me, talk to me." Arthur seemed most fond of the pirate hat, though he had some trouble with the associated language -- he more often said "Errrr" than "Arrrr" :-)

I played with the kids for a few hours before the other showed up. There was much chasing and climbing (them over me) and tickling. At one point, they somehow determined that I was a monster trying to eat their shoes, and that they must protect them from me. I duly took up my role and tried to steal the shoes (not very diligently), resulting in much delighted shrieking.

Pamela had won a contest at a local seafood place, using a picture of the twins, so we all got to share a "clambake for 6". Although, as it turned out, they were out of clams, so forced we were to make do with shrimp, alas. It was the first time Pamela had ever eaten a lobster, and it was fun to watch her get instructed by Karen (long time lobster connosieur).

Eventually, the very-overstimulated children wore themselves out and were put to bed, albeit with much complaining. The grownups stayed up for a few more hours, and had good conversation on a variety of topics: children's books, dysfunctional relationships, politics, conspiracy theories, gardening.

Long drive home through the rain, then topped off the evening by reading to my sweetie. Life is good.

Perhaps he's a proper British pirate? "Errr....if it wouldn't inconvenience you terribly much, could you possible spare, err, all of that treasure you're carrying? There's a good chap."

"And what do you say, Dread Pirate Arthur?"
"Thank you for all your treasure!"
"Good Pirate!"
