Up early

Got up at waytoofrickinearly this morning in order to make it to an appointment with an allergist that involved some fairly complicated public transit maneuvers.

The otherwise extremely familiar neighborhood just looks *wrong* to me when lit from that direction.

Saw a strange man dash into a car and drive off without even closing his car door until he was in motion. He only drove a short distance, then jumped out of the car, and ran across the street. He hurled something at the house, then ran back. I was wondering if he was some sort of criminal, vandal, or terrorist, but then I realized that he was just the paper-delivery guy.

They did not do the "poke me with dozens of little needles" test at this time. Ineed to go off my current medication for a while and come back in a week to get a clean result. I did get a prescription for a new drug to try. It's administered via nose spray, which I am dubious about, but will give a try to...

If it's Nasonex, definitely give it a shot. I've tried every other allergy drug under the sun, and resisted this one forever because I haaaaaate getting things up my nose, but I finally gave it a chance. I still make faces every time I use it, but for the first time in my life I can breathe through my nose.

Well, it is, and I'll be trying it soon.

While it might be temporarily unpleasant, as a delivery method, 'nasally' has many things going for it.

Good luck!

Nasonex has steroids in it. Steroids will certainly help allergy symptoms. They also reduce immune system function; if you have a sinus infection that's a problem. I have *lots* of allergies, and I hate the nose sprays. There are many drugs in pill form to try that help the nose too. I use Singular (antiluekotrine) and an antihistamine together.

Environmental control helps A LOT, once you know what you are allergic to. If it's dust mites, you're gonna have fun. The shots are easier.

Hrm. That could be a problem. I don't have a great immune system to begin with...

Oh, it probably is (among multifarious others). As a lazy bibliophile, I don't know if that's really going to be feasible to control.

The shots are easier.

It may yet come to that. Luckily, I am not too wussy about needles. Gonna try this Nasonex stuff for a little bit at least, and see what happens.

Maybe you can get your health insurance to pay for an ebook reader. ;-)

No way I'm giving up paper at today's tech levels :) Once they have an e-book medium that stands up to long-term use and abuse even half as well as paper, I'll consider it. (I have in my shelf a book which was physically published in SCA period, 15-mumble. It's rather beat-up, but still quite readable. I also have a book which accidentally went through the washing machine, and recovered remarkably well after drying out.)

Oh, I wouldn't want to give up paper, either. I might consider it if it were that or stop breathing, though. ;-)
