Gamehelper gave us a flattering rating: "...this game deserves a round eleven out of ten. New ground has been broken, we will have new standards from now on."

The Hollywood Reporter has an interesting article about how BioShock was marketed.

Zero Punctuation has done a very funny video review of BioShock. (A few weeks ago, I meant to post a link to his excellent Psychonauts review, but never got around to it. Well, now I have.)

Do you have any idea if Bioshock would be happy running on an Intel Mac under Parallels or other such Windows solution? I really can't install a root kit on my work (PC) laptop, but wouldn't mind playing it on a throw-away partition on my Mac.

I've passed along the question to one who might know the answer.

Depends who you trust, I suppose. Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BioShock#Issues_with_SecuROM_activation_and_copy_protection) has some things to say on the subject. I think being extra-diligent about work-machines is generally a good idea, no matter what SecuROM is actually doing here.

As much as it amazes me, it's possible that Parallels Desktop 3.0 might support Bioshock-- V3.0 of Parallels Desktop does handle 3D DirectX, and the manufacturer claims that Doom 3 will run under it. Doom 3 requires DirectX v9.0b (Bioshock requires 9.0c; Parallels doesn't actually say whether they're emulating 9.0n, or supporting the actual chip installed in the Mac).

There's also this video on YouTube which claims to be footage of Bioshock on a MacBook Pro, running under Parallels (in DirectX 9 mode, averaging 30 fps).

Browsing through Parallel's knowledge base, I suspect that Parallels Desktop 3.0 is emulating DirectX 8.1, with some 9.x extensions.

In short, you could email the guy who made that video, and see what he says, or wait for Alexx to get back to you... :)

One more comic

One more comic: Bun-Bun as a Big Daddy. It's just a rough sketch (he sometimes does that on Sundays lately), but still.

That Zero Punctuation review was hilarious, and (I'm sorry to say) spot on. :)

Bioshock (which I have only played for a few minutes so far!) is, by one metric, one of the 3 best games of all time: Civ 2, World of Warcraft, and Bioshock. These are, (I think) the only 3 computer games I have ever paid retail price for. Every other game I have was either a gift or something I got at big discount long after it came out.
