King Lear was much better than I'd expected. I still don't actually like the story, but it was very well done. The acting was top-notch, as were the makeup and lighting. I had a few minor quibbles, but really only one major one (too much dead air while changing sets).

Got a ride home from [livejournal.com profile] tibicen and her sweetie; was good to see them, and chat a bit.

Came home to find the house full of people who don't actually live here :-) Karen, [livejournal.com profile] rickthefightguy, his fiancee Carin, Topher, and Barbara's mom are all up for the weekend. Was *really* good to see Rick. It's notable that any room he's in is full of laughter. You can actually track his movements around the house, even if you're quite far away. I can even stand being in a room with Karen when he's around...

Stayed up too late chatting with Rick et al. Then got up earlier than I otherwise would have to do more of it. Slightly sleep-dep'd, but happy nonetheless.

[livejournal.com profile] kestrell and I spent some time this afternoon on an emergency mobility lesson. There's construction happening on the Shawmut T station which, among other things, has cut off the route she used to take to get there. The new route is only about two or three blocks longer in total distance, but contains more like six blocks of unfamiliar territory. Rather daunting. Will do some more tomorrow, and adjust my work schedule so that I can at least go *to* the T with her for the first week of this.

Finished work on my Cerebus Timeline, now that Cerebus itself has finished. There might be one or two small revisions yet to come, but the bulk of the work is finally complete. Given where both story and author went in the last few years, I'm rather relieved to see the last of it.

Book Store Closing

"Avenue Victor Hugo Bookshop will shut its doors for good in May. The year long attempt to save the store in a new location will come to an end. A loss of former customers who thought the store had closed at the end of 2002, compounded with an overall loss of business to chain stores, and to the changing shopping patterns on Newbury Street, made continuing the struggle impossible.

Despite lower overhead, a large stock of over 100,000 volumes, and a good location only steps from where it originally opened almost thirty years ago, the shop has finally succumbed to the prevailing trends in the book business. Blue Bart, the store cat, will retire to the home of a long time friend.

A general 50% off sale will commence Thursday, April 1st for book fools and those who wish to be. The sale will continue until all stock is sold, with further reductions to follow as necessary. Shelving will be sold in May.

For more information and updates please revisit our website. We will post more information in the coming days"

Job update

[livejournal.com profile] cvirtue reminds me that I haven't posted about my job for a while. It goes well. After a typically disorganized first week, dealing with setup of hardware, software, and bureaucratic paperwork, I started doing actual work on Wednesday. There's still a certain amount of learning curve with the new-to-me tools, but I'm ramping up fast. I aspire to overtaking the art team and making them rearrange the schedule :-)

I knew I would enjoy working with Dorian, when I saw a note he'd put in one of the design docs, correcting an "i.e." to an "e.g."; we are similarly nit-picky :-)

Some of the team is doing a demo for one of the major games magazines on Monday. We already got excellent coverage in two out of the three, so here's hoping we get even more good publicity.
