[Why am I awake at this, for me, ungodly hour? I have no idea, but the web was made for insomnia...]

[livejournal.com profile] cvirtue recently asked in her LJ what were the two things that made people laugh recently. I didn't reply, because I couldn't remember. But since then, I've gotten 2 good laughs, both from posts by [livejournal.com profile] james_nicoll on rec.arts.sf.written, in a thread he started called "The Core Books". The first post read:
I seem to have forgotten what the core SF books every well informed reader should have read, to understand the field. Could someone remind me what they are, again?
To this, someone with little appreciation for James' dry wit and evil sense of humor responded:
Sounds pretty subjective.
James' response got a bigger laugh from me than his first post had:
I am shocked and surprised to hear this.

On an unrelated note, I have a golden apple that is not mine. Unfortunately the only address I have is "for the fairest one". Could someone help me deliver this to its proper owner?
