Saturday:
[livejournal.com profile] rufinia and [livejournal.com profile] tpau came over for latin & Buffy. Yay, geek girls! Had the traditional showing of The Musical :-)

Sunday:
Party, party, party! I'm not going to list everyone who showed up, 'cause there's too many of you. Was major fun though. There was the traditional showing of 1776. Strangely, for the first time this month, there was *not* a showing of The Musical :-)

Stayed up *way* past my bedtime. Many geek girls, who were appreciative of back-rubs. And geeks of both genders to converse with. [livejournal.com profile] londo had a new light-bulb joke, which proved to be very polarizing. *I* thought it was great, but many seemed not to get it. Oh well.

One of the great things about having a party in one's own (large) house, is that when I get too overstimulated and/or crowd-phobic, I can easily retreat to my room for 30 minutes or an hour, and then come back when I feel refreshed.

Monday:
Totally lethargic day, mostly spent in front of the TV. Played much DC2, but also watched some DVDs with [livejournal.com profile] kestrell. One was Gothic, directed by Ken Russell, which is about that night with Byron, the Shelleys, and Polidori, that gave rise to (among other things) _Frankenstein_. This is only the second Ken Russell film I've seen, but I can see a clear pattern. He seems to like stories about "just how fucked up can people be?", in both an emotional sense, and in a drugged-to-the-teeth sense. Lots of bizarre imagery, frequently with no clear sense of whether this stuff is really happening, or is just the drug-addled perception of the protagonists. Not much actual story along the way, but great heaps of imagery and overwrought emotion. "If you like that sort of thing, this is the sort of thing you will like."

Also watched some of the special feature stuff on the Buffy S6 discs. Marti Noxon may be a good writer, but my god, she gives awful commentary track. I knew that from at least one previous example, but I thought that being paired with David Fury might improve her. That experiment lasted five minutes before I decided to watch something else. Drew Greenberg's commentary on Smashed was pretty good, if not amazing. The commentary on Normal Again was another "five minutes was more than enough of *that*" experience. I guess I'm just spoiled by Joss. He's quite aware that he's "on", and that people want to be both entertained and informed by the commentary. If you haven't already, check out his commentary track for the Firefly episode "Objects at Rest". Finally, I watched a recording of some panel that much of the cast and crew appeared on, obviously in the hiatus between seasons 6 and 7. Mildly amusing.

Teusday:
Work, work, work. I was bit by the productivity bug, and didn't even have time for LJ. Obviously, am making up for lost time today...

Got home very late (after weekly conference call with Australia), but ended up staying up even later, finishing a re-read of A Fire Upon the Deep, by Vernor Vinge. Why is it that I feel more compelled to stay up late to finish a book that I have already read before than I do for a new book? Puzzling.
