Silliest Thing Seen At Arisia:
Boba Fett marching down the Mezzanine, having arrested a babe in a Catholic Schoolgirl outfit. Two Jedi Knights see this, and fire up their lightsabers to come to her rescue. After a brief conversation in low tones, they back off sheepishly. Guess the "little girl" was enjoying the whole "being arrested" experience :-)

There were lots of very high-quality Star Wars costumes about; some organized SW fandom was recruiting actively. [livejournal.com profile] kestrell liked the voice modifier that one of the Stormtroopers had. OTOH, when Darth Vader was walking around with his helmet in his hand, she was disturbed by the heavy breathing coming from belt-level :-)

Also wandering around the Mezz were a number of Naughty Nurses, promoting the Heinlein Memorial Blood Drive. Lab coats, nurse hats, corsets, and fishnet stockings. Yum! One of them even had a red satin stethescope.

Also seen was a most excellent Prince of All Cosmos, complete with a Katamari (about 1 Meter in size at time of sighting).

Only caught a teensy bit of the Masquerade on the hotel video. It amazes me that people are willing to take 4 hours or more out of their convention time for so little entertainment. Didn't Masquerades used to have more costumes and less time wasted on, waiting in line, setup, etc? Or am I just getting old and crochety?

Was on several panels, none of which were disasters. I'm developing a definite taste for strongly-moderated panels, though, as opposed to audience-driven free-for-alls. Next year, I shall do my part by volunteering to do more moderation myself. As usual, I didn't manage to sit still for many panels I wasn't actually on, despite good intentions.

Saw lots of people whom I hadn't seen in a long time. The winner for longevity has to be Jack Haringa (who is apparently on LJ, but I don't have his ID yet), who I went to high school with, and havent seen since a few years after that! We only spoke briefly, but he promised to get in touch via LJ, which should be cool. I also met [livejournal.com profile] shava23, of whom I had often heard [livejournal.com profile] jducouer speak, but never actually met before. She is Nifty, and I look forward to further friendship. (Oh, and Shava, [livejournal.com profile] herooftheage *did* remember you, as I assured you he would :-) Also had a fun chat with [livejournal.com profile] baron_saturday. We agreed that we should try and see each other more often than once a year; here's hoping that actually happens. Also saw lots of The Usual Suspects, but won't do namedrops, as it would take too long.

I participated in a "staged reading" of a radio-play-like thing based on The Dark Knight Returns (first chapter). It was fun, but hardly Art. The writer/director made some poor choices (IMAO), and half the cast had enthusiasm but no talent. Enthusiasm matters a lot in such things, however, so it was still a fun experience. I was perhaps less agressive in role seeking than I should have been, so only ended up with two tiny roles, the larger of which was "Thug Number Two". At least he was the smart one, though that didn't stop him from getting an ass-kicking from The Batman :-) [livejournal.com profile] shava23 got lots of good parts. The small-part casting was done in such a hurry, that the director didn't realize that, at one point, she was going to have to play a mugger and victim simultaneously. She pulled it off with great elan, however!
