Bob and Bing went adventuring last night. Spent a while fighting skeletons in the Raven Hill Cemetary. Discovered that Bob is a big scaredy-cat; he kept getting hit by Fear attacks and running away. In one encounter, he ran away *five* times! That's what you get for being the comic relief, I guess. Funny that the players are the opposite of the characters here: I'm the cautious one, and [livejournal.com profile] herooftheage always wants to charge in :)

Around 11:30, I was getting sleepy, so I headed Bing back to Stormwind to do a bit of maintenance and then quit. Bob was soloing for a bit, as my Paladin quests had gotten me ahead of him in experience. But shortly after I got back to Stormwind...

"Tom, come here. Now. You *have* to see this!" In hindsight, there was no urgency, but I was seeing something that I had never seen before, and had no clue how long it would last. There in the town square -- or I should say, *above* the town square -- was Teremus The Devourer, a flying red ragon with about a thirty-foot wingspan, raining fiery death down upon the populace.

A bunch of level 60 characters (and many lower level ones) were attacking him, but to no obvious avail. As a mere 24th level Paladin, I knew I had no chance in direct combat, but I hung around the edges of the fight, casting beneficial spells on the higher-level combatants. I was actually at a very dramatic level with regard to this fight, since the dragon's area-of-effect attack that went off every once in a while just *barely* failed to kill me, leaving me time to run a ways off and heal up. I only got killed twice during the lengthy battle. Unfortunately, the dragon kept healing up as well, somehow...

Various (presumably high-level) characters would occasionally get the dragon's specific attention and lead it to a new part of Stormwind. They led it into Stormwind Keep a few separate times, in the hopes that a really high-level NPC named Bolvar would take it out. Eventually, this tactic worked, and the Devourer fell. For extra kicks and giggles, someone had actually triggered the Stormwind Keep "Battle with Onyxia" event *just* as Teremus fell, so the huge crowd that had assembled immediately found themselves embroiled in *another* dragon-fight. But that one was actually easier, and the whole affair was over a little after one a.m. So much for getting to bed early.

Researching on-line this morning, I see that Teremus' AoE attack apparently is a *drain life* effect. So *that's* how the bastard kept returning to full health! And all those low-level people (including me and Bob) who thought they were helping with the fight were really being nothing but health-batteries for the enemy. Damn! Also, looking through these same notes, it appears that Teremus usually hangs out in The Blasted Lands, but can be induced to pursue PCs pretty much anywhere. Apparently, bringing him to SW to let Bolvar kill him is a fairly common tactic.
