I just sent this to the WicDiv letters page, and thought it worth sharing with y'all. Spoilers for issue #33

A few weeks back, I began reading my (blind) wife The Wicked + The Divine. Last night, having finished issue 33, I started reading her the Christmas Annual.

When she heard that it was (sort of) Christmas-themed, she perked up and asked, in reference to one of her favorite Christmas stories, “Will the Green Knight show up? He’s got a talking head and everything!” Sadly, I had to disappoint her, but we then had an amusing discussion about whether the Arthurian court might have been an iteration of the Pantheon. They’re relatively young, quite powerful, and collectively brought down by their fucked-up interpersonal relationships. Ananke maps pretty well to Merlin (perhaps making Nimue Minerva). Morgan le Fay is often portrayed as having two sisters and as being a ”fate”, so there we have the Norns. My wife says the Black Knight is associated with lightning, so might be a Ba’al. Galahad’s innocence and sunny disposition seem to be a good match to Amaterasu, and so on…

In other WicDiv news, one of Woden’s outbursts from a few issues back made her say “I want that on a T-shirt!” After a little discussion, we modified the quote slightly to say “I’m the scary Dark Arts Professor who scares the shit out of the Slytherin kids.” I spent a while working on a design, then went to one of the big online custom T-shirt makers to get one printed. And then tried a second one. To my disgust, all of them seem to have been intimidated by Rowling’s lawyers, and will not print a custom T-shirt that contains the word “Slytherin” (TM). I am disgruntled.
