The focus testing for FFvt3R on Saturday had pretty much the optimal outcome. Dorian and I got lots of useful data on things to improve/fix, but all the players had a lot of fun anyways. That tells us that we've already reached "good", and have a decent shot at "awesome". Now, busybusybusy implementing improvements.
=====
In other work-related news, a minor PR snafu had the pleasant side-effect of uprading my title. Dorian and I are now both officially "Co-Lead Designers". This doesn't change my duties any, as it's been de facto true for many months, but it's nice to be officially recognized. I'm due for a Performance Review next month, and have high hopes, raise-wise.
=====
Some progress has actually been made on the Historian Backlog. Thanks to my first Official Deputy, [livejournal.com profile] pancua, who came over on Sunday and sorted for an hour, getting over halfway through the pile. Next month, finishing the sorting, and after that, actual cataloging and filing.
=====
Been spending a lot of "spare" time doing research for my presentation at [livejournal.com profile] gyzki's History Symposium in January. I'll be talking about the historical roots and literary development of The Matter of France. Only a few of the books are small enough to be easily portable, however. So I've got one in the kitchen, for reading at mealtimes, one in my room, for reading before bed, and one that I carry around and read on the T. The three books span four centuries, are radically different in style, but feature many of the same characters. Sometimes my head feels like it's going to explode! But the cross-reference-y parts of my brain are having a field day :-)

Paraphrased (and second-hand) conversation between [livejournal.com profile] kestrell and a friend:
friend: "I always thought Alexx was vanilla?"
Kes: "Nope. He's more like a hot fudge sundae. Y'know, *based* on vanilla, but much more complex and interesting..."

last bit:

That is a GREAT description. I'll be sharing it with my not-quite-vanilla boy, if you don't mind (and I know you don't!)

To me, this is the great joy of reading history. Looking forward to the symposium.

Yay. I'd really have liked to show up but [livejournal.com profile] galaneia and I ended up having a good day of it out at her old Alma Mater...

I've met a bunch of SCAdians who are planning to perform everyone's favorite Beaumont & Fletcher play this next September.
