My (normally) trusty exo-cortex, a Treo 700P, has bitten the dust. Had about 50 minutes of conversation (and on hold time) with 4 different tech support people, the end result of which is that a replacement is winging its way to me by second-day air. My perfectionist nature is irked that the problem wasn't 'solved', but given Moore's Law, and how long they spent talking to me, choosing to just replace it makes some economic sense. But if I *could* fix it, then I would have a spare, which would be no bad thing. Anyone feel like doing some amateur tech support?

The first intimation of problems was when my Treo wouldn't synch unless I had freshly rebooted my computer, which started a few days back. Then my Treo started spontaneously trying to HotSync every few minutes, even when it wasn't connected. Eventually, it seemed to freeze on the HotSync screen. I popped the battery out briefly, in an attempt to soft-reset the unit. When the power came back, it was accompanied by a message asking if I wanted to do a ROM upgrade?!? When I said no, the screen turned into 8 large colored blocks, with a small notation at the top: "0.13" I started fiddling with the reset switch, trying various kinds of harder-resets. None of them seemed to do anything. In the course of this, I popped the battery several more times. In it's current state, it no longer asks me about the ROM update, but just goes straight o the 0.13 colored blocks screen. Does anyone out there have insight into what might be going on here?
